Lifting equipment compliance
GA3 forms and LOLER thorough examination records, done on your phone
A GA3 is the report of a thorough examination of lifting equipment. On Irish construction sites it is the paperwork an inspector, main contractor or client asks for when they want proof that a crane, hoist, telehandler, chain block, sling or shackle was examined by a competent person and found safe to use.
When a GA3 is required
- Lifting equipment used for lifting people: examined at least every 6 months.
- All other lifting equipment and accessories: examined at least every 12 months.
- After installation, re-assembly at a new site, or any event that could affect safety.
- In line with the examination scheme where one is drawn up for the equipment.
Intervals follow the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations and the UK LOLER equivalent. Always check the current HSA guidance and the equipment's examination scheme for your specific plant.
What the record has to show
Description, serial or plant number, safe working load and location.
Defects found, whether it is safe to use, repair dates and next due date.
Name, employer, date of examination and signature on the report.
How Handy Site LC handles it digitally
- 1. Create a free account and add the sites you look after.
- 2. Fill in the GA3 form on site, attaching photos that carry a stamped date and time.
- 3. Sign off; the app produces a PDF and Word copy of the record.
- 4. Every record stays in your saved reports, so the next audit is a search, not a filing cabinet.
The same account also covers site inspections, safety checklists, RAMS sign-offs, site inductions and safety training certificates.
